The Department of Defense announced agreements with eight leading technology firms to deploy AI systems on its most sensitive classified networks following a dispute with Anthropic

The Pentagon announced agreements with eight leading tech firms — Amazon Web Services, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, SpaceX, NVIDIA, Reflection AI, and Oracle — to deploy their AI systems on its most classified networks, rated Impact Level 6 (Secret) and Impact Level 7 (Top Secret).

The move follows tensions with Anthropic, which refused Pentagon demands for unrestricted use of its models for autonomous weapons and domestic surveillance. The two sides are currently in litigation, with Anthropic having won a court injunction in March against being designated a "supply-chain risk."

The new AI tools will be accessible via GenAI.mil, the Pentagon's central AI platform, with a focus on warfighter decision-making, data synthesis, and situational awareness. More than 1.3 million DoD personnel have already used the platform
